On 27 November 2025, the European Commission received notifications from Apple indicating that its core platform services, Apple Ads and Apple Maps, meet the thresholds established under the Digital Markets Act (DMA).
Following receipt of these notifications, the Commission has 45 working days to decide whether to designate Apple as a gatekeeper for any of these services. Should Apple be designated, it will have six months to comply with the DMA’s obligations.
The DMA applies to companies operating core platform services that have a significant impact on the internal market, maintain a strong and durable market position, and serve as an important gateway between businesses and consumers. These criteria are presumed to apply to services with at least 45 million monthly active end users and 10,000 yearly business users in each of the last three financial years.
