The Czech Office for the Protection of Competition (ÚOHS) has imposed a fine of 1.16 million Czech crowns (approximately €47,800) on hop trading company ARIX a.s. for violating statutory payment deadlines under the Act on Significant Market Power.

An investigation by the regulator revealed that ARIX systematically failed to observe the mandatory 30-day invoice payment window across its commercial transactions with 19 agricultural and food product suppliers. In multiple instances, payment delays extended beyond 100 days. The authority determined that these non-compliant practices were systematic, creating adverse operational and financial effects over a period of at least 27 months between 2023 and 2025.

According to the ÚOHS, the primary objective of the Act on Significant Market Power is to prevent larger buyers from unfairly transferring commercial and financial risks onto smaller agricultural producers and food suppliers. The authority emphasized that enforcing mandatory payment terms ensures balanced market conditions and prevents dominant market players from using weaker counterparties as indirect financing mechanisms.

ARIX operates as an international grower, processor, and trader focused on services for agriculture, forestry, and hop trading. The company is connected to the PPF Group through Agro-Chmel Holding. During the administrative proceedings, ARIX admitted to the statutory violations and cooperated with the investigation, resulting in a 20 percent reduction in its final penalty. The decision is now legally binding.
