AWS and Azure Partner on Direct Multicloud Interconnect

Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure have launched a joint multicloud networking capability that enables enterprises to provision private, high-speed connections directly between the two major cloud platforms. The integration, currently in public preview under AWS Interconnect – multicloud and Azure Multicloud Interconnect, removes the need for third-party networking providers, complex physical cabling, or public internet routing.

The service completes AWS’s broader multicloud connectivity framework, which previously established direct links with Google Cloud and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure following an open API specification introduced at re:Invent 2025. Through the new setup, enterprise customers can configure dedicated inter-cloud links in minutes using standard management consoles or command-line interfaces, establishing high-bandwidth connections designed to support cross-cloud workloads, regulatory compliance demands, and post-merger infrastructure integrations.

To meet enterprise reliability standards, the architecture features quad-redundant routing across physically separate interconnect sites, allowing data traffic to maintain uptime even during site-level outages or maintenance. The setup also enforces default MACsec hardware encryption for all data in transit between cloud edges, alongside integrated network monitoring tools designed to automatically detect packet loss and attribute latency issues to the responsible provider environment.

The joint roll-out underscores a shifts toward cloud interoperability, allowing organizations running split workloads across major infrastructure providers to manage cross-platform networking under standardized operational models. Both cloud providers indicated plans to further expand regional availability and bandwidth capacity as enterprise adoption grows.
