Romania’s antitrust regulator, the Competition Council, has launched an official investigation into potential anticompetitive agreements within the printing equipment and electronic security markets. The inquiry centers on Konica Minolta Business Solutions Romania SRL alongside two distributors, General Systems SRL and General Systems & Distribution SRL.
The regulator suspects the three entities may have colluded to fix resale prices, allocate market share, and restrict cross-border exports. As part of the ongoing proceedings, unannounced inspections were conducted at the headquarters and operating premises of Konica Minolta Business Solutions Romania. These dawn raids were formally authorized by the Bucharest Court of Appeal to gather documents and evidence necessary to clarify the alleged market practices.
Officials emphasized that carrying out unannounced inspections is a standard evidentiary step and does not prejudge the ultimate outcome or determine guilt. However, if the investigation confirms antitrust violations, the involved companies face significant statutory penalties, with fines reaching up to 10% of their total turnover.
The target of the dawn raids, Konica Minolta Business Solutions Romania SRL, operates as a prominent supplier of printing and imaging devices, multifunctional hardware, and video surveillance solutions. Meanwhile, General Systems SRL and General Systems & Distribution SRL import peripheral hardware, consumables, and security systems, distributing them across a wider reseller network in Romania. All confiscated materials are currently under review by the authority as part of its formal investigation.
