The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has issued a draft determination proposing to grant authorization for Singapore Airlines and All Nippon Airways (ANA) to coordinate key operational aspects under a new Joint Venture Agreement. The proposed coordination covers flights connecting Australia and Japan, as well as select international routes, aiming to streamline operations and enhance connectivity between the carrier networks.
The competition regulator proposes to grant the merger authorization for a five-year period. In the interim, the ACCC has granted temporary authorization allowing both airlines to begin discussing and planning their proposed coordination, though they are strictly prohibited from implementing any joint operational changes until final regulatory approval is secured.
Prior to delivering a final decision, the ACCC is opening a public consultation process to gather feedback on the draft determination. Interested stakeholders, industry participants, and consumers have until August 7, 2026, to submit their responses regarding the proposed joint venture.
