The European Commission has approved, under the EU Merger Regulation, Global Payments Inc.’s acquisition of sole control over Worldpay Holdco, LLC. Both companies are headquartered in the United States and are active in the merchant acquiring sector.
The review focused primarily on the provision of point-of-sale merchant acquiring services, particularly in Ireland. Following its assessment, the Commission concluded that the deal would not significantly reduce competition in any of the affected markets. The combined entity’s presence remains limited and sufficient competitive constraints will continue to exist.
As a result, the Commission cleared the transaction unconditionally. The case was reviewed under the standard merger control procedure.
