The Competition Authority has confirmed that an unannounced search and seizure operation was carried out within the cancer treatment sector on 23 September. The operation was authorised by a judge of liberties and detention and executed by the Authority’s investigating services.
According to the Authority’s general rapporteur, “this investigative measure was undertaken as part of our mission to ensure that competition rules are respected in sectors of strategic importance, such as healthcare.”
The operation targeted a company suspected of engaging in anti-competitive practices. However, the Authority stressed that no conclusions can be drawn at this stage. “The intervention does not in any way prejudge the guilt of the company concerned. Only an in-depth investigation will determine, if necessary, whether infringements have been committed,” the rapporteur added.
The Authority declined to provide further details regarding the identity of the company visited or the specific practices under scrutiny. “In the interest of preserving the integrity of the investigation, no additional comments will be made at this time,” an Authority spokesperson said.
