The Competition Council of the Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) has imposed a total fine of HUF 22 million (approximately EUR 57,000) on RONDOgo s.r.o., a Czech-based company operating the Rondogo website, for multiple infringements of Hungarian consumer protection rules and for engaging in deceptive commercial practices.
RONDOgo operated an online platform offering prize games, loyalty schemes, and discounted product purchasing opportunities. Following an investigation, the GVH concluded that the company had engaged in several unfair commercial practices affecting Hungarian consumers.
The authority established that between March 2022 and July 2025, Rondogo infringed consumer protection rules in multiple respects. In particular, the company failed to disclose material information to consumers, including the fact that Hungarian users were competing for advertised prizes not only with other Hungarian consumers, but also with consumers from other countries where Rondogo operated websites in different languages. In addition, Rondogo did not adequately inform consumers that cash prizes available through its “wheel of fortune” feature were only paid out for amounts exceeding HUF 2,900 (approximately EUR 7.50).
The investigation further revealed that Rondogo misled consumers through website claims such as “you can buy a product at the best price available on the internet” and “we guarantee you the lowest price on the entire internet”, which overstated the actual price advantages offered. When displaying individual discounts, the company also applied fictitious reference prices that were not genuinely intended to be used, thereby exaggerating the perceived level of savings.
Moreover, the GVH found that Rondogo failed to comply with the requirement of professional diligence in the design of its discount and pricing practices between March 2022 and October 2024. Specifically, the company structured its credit-based discount system in a manner that compelled consumers to purchase more credits than necessary in order to access the maximum discount for a given product, resulting in additional and unjustified costs for consumers.
As a consequence of these infringements, the Competition Council imposed a competition supervision fine of HUF 20 million (approximately EUR 52,000). In determining the fine, the authority took into account several mitigating factors, including the company’s cooperation during the proceedings, its acceptance of the facts established by the GVH, its admission of the infringements, and its waiver of the right to seek legal remedies.
However, the Competition Council also found that Rondogo had engaged in conduct aimed at delaying the proceedings prior to the adoption of the decision. As a result, in a separate ruling, the GVH imposed an additional procedural fine of HUF 2 million (approximately EUR 5,200). The authority emphasised that companies may face significant procedural sanctions if they deliberately delay competition supervision proceedings.
The GVH also reiterated its warning to consumers to exercise caution when participating in prize games or using coupon-based discount offers. Consumers are advised to carefully review the applicable terms and conditions and, in the case of discounts, to compare alternative offers available on the market.
Before the conclusion of the proceedings, on 1 November 2025, the Hungarian-language version of the Rondogo website that was subject to the investigation was shut down.
