The Danish Competition and Consumer Authority (DCCA) has initiated an investigation into the competitive conditions across the food value chain, reflecting the agency’s ongoing focus on the grocery sector. Market participants are encouraged to contribute insights to support the Authority’s analysis.

In recent years, the DCCA has closely monitored developments in prices and profit margins within the grocery industry. Building on this work, the Authority is now conducting a comprehensive analysis of the food value chain to identify potential barriers to competition and structural factors that may contribute to higher costs and prices for consumers.

The analysis will examine the competitive environment in different stages of the food value chain, including whether existing regulations or other framework conditions unnecessarily hinder competition. It will also assess how changes in production costs are reflected in consumer prices, evaluating whether cost reductions are passed on to end consumers.

The DCCA encourages stakeholders from across the food industry to engage with the Authority and provide relevant information to inform the analysis. The study is being conducted pursuant to the Danish Competition Act and aims to ensure that market structures and practices support fair competition and efficient price formation.
