The Office for the Protection of Competition (ÚOHS) in the Czech Republic has launched administrative proceedings to investigate potential abuse of a dominant market position by one of the country’s commercial television stations.
This investigation centers around concerns that the television station may have violated competition laws regarding the licensing of television content distribution, which could have harmed both consumers and distributors or operators involved in retransmission.
The Office is specifically examining whether the conduct of the television station has distorted competition in the Czech market and potentially affected trade between European Union member states. However, the initiation of these proceedings does not automatically indicate that a violation of competition laws has occurred, nor does it imply that a fine will be imposed. As such, the identity of the television station under investigation has not been disclosed by the ÚOHS until a final decision is reached.
In response to the proceedings, Barbora Dlabáčková, a spokesperson for Nova, a major Czech television station, stated that they have no information suggesting that the ongoing proceedings concern them, CTK reported. On the other hand, Prima, another commercial broadcaster, has refrained from commenting on any potential or ongoing investigations related to the matter.
