Lithuanian Competition Council to Inspect 17 Online Platforms in 2026

The Lithuanian Competition Council has finalized its 2026 oversight plan, initiating a comprehensive series of inspections for seventeen companies providing online intermediation services. This initiative, scheduled to run from February through December 2026, is part of a strategic effort to enforce the European Union’s Regulation on fairness and transparency for business users of online platforms. The selected companies, ranging from fintech providers like Paysera LT to specialized service portals such as Mano daktaras and Find My Lawyer, were identified through a risk-based assessment of their market activities.

The primary objective of these inspections is to verify that digital “middlemen” are operating with clear and equitable standards. The Competition Council’s Internet Platforms and Shopping Networks Investigation Group will specifically scrutinize how these platforms handle the suspension or termination of user accounts, the transparency of their search ranking algorithms, and the level of access businesses have to the data generated by their sales and interactions. Rather than focusing solely on enforcement, the Council intends for these reviews to provide methodological assistance, ensuring that Lithuanian digital entities align with broader European standards for a fair digital marketplace.

The Competition Council’s Internet Platforms and Shopping Networks Investigation Group will inspect 17 companies providing online intermediation services in Lithuania:Horizontal Media, Rebel Origin, Paysera LT, Elektroninės prekybos centras, Helis play, Kakava LT, Spartuolis, Mano daktaras, Vesele Tech, PortalPRO, Bovem, Miestų skėlbimai, Sigvi, Realu LT, Find My Lawyer, Ant Bus Rent, Dvigubas ačiū.

To maintain a predictable and efficient process, the Council has capped the duration of each inspection at two months. The regulator is encouraging companies to appoint dedicated representatives to manage the submission of documents and the completion of control questionnaires. Notably, this 2026 cycle emphasizes compliance over punishment; if an inspection reveals deficiencies, the platform will be granted a specific deadline to rectify the issue without facing immediate financial penalties. This collaborative approach aims to strengthen the trust between digital platforms and the businesses that rely on them to reach Lithuanian consumers.
